A Bitter Day

A Bitter Day

by Synthia Rainess

What dreams have come to haunt my way

And help me through this bitter day?

What carrot hanging ever near

Will push me, push me past my fear?

What lonesome wind will blow my way

to help me stand, not fall or sway?

What will become of all that's dear

If I should shrink back from the sear?

What anchor will I find today

to help me find my strength and way? Will it be a piece of time?

A piece that I can call all mine?

What sliver of hope will prevail?

Hope that will change my tale?

I search, search my mind

Holding on to hope of what I'll find

All there is to do is done

Here comes the setting of the sun

Tonight I'll bend a knee and pray

For tomorrow to be a better day
